Jenn will discuss, the flora, fauna, geology, and history. She will find the plants important to the land. You will not be far from the lower edge of Shenadoah National Park, which verges on the Farm in many spots.
Out and Back with Jenn or strike out on your own up Devil's Backbone on Graves Mountain
Rating – easy
Length – 2.5 miles out and back
Vertical Gain – 150 feet
View - streamside of the Robinson, meadows, orchards, woods
Beware – horses on trails
Equipment – none needed other than rain gear, if forecast.
Way Finding
- From main lodge, go down to the Rose "River" turn left and go upstream 200 yards to pedestrian bridge
- Cross over river on the pedestrian bridge
- Carry on straight (around the pavilion), across the Old Blue Ridge Tpk, down Apple Tree Lane to the Farmyard, the farm animals, horses, ponies
- Now see signs for Blue Trail and carry straight on into the apple orchard, on either side of the double track, keep straight
- As you go down third downhill, you will see first branch off to right - stay left, though
- Follow double track down to Robinson River and an old campfire
- Continue on and see turn to your left - take it up the short hill.
- At top of hill, follow signage, left, back through woods
- Come down to the orchard, go through or keep right on the track
- Follow back to Farmyard and make way back to main Lodge
